This training is for School Social Workers ONLY. The professional development will focus on the following as presented by Leanne Klumb- GLSEN Tampa Board Member, Transgender Advocate, and Parent: A brief overview of current demographic trends and needs in LGBTQIA student communities, with a focus on data related to our school district. A review of federal laws and school policies related to this population as presented by Araseli Martinez-Peña with the district’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. A review of appropriate language to use when working with students of this population. Strategies for creating safe space and supporting students. Strategies for working with families of students who identify as LGBTQ+.
