***VPK and K-3 Summer Learning Program Reading Teachers and Reading Coaches ONLY***

In this HYBRID professional development experience, participants will take their reading practice to the next level by joining other likeminded VPK-3rd educators in an in-depth literacy institute focused on aligning small group instruction to the science of reading. HCPS educators in this institute will benefit from training and coaching through the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning, earning 40 hours of inservice points towards the Florida reading requirement for recertification. Participants must attend and apply all sessions of the institute for course completion.

Program Highlights:

  • Collaborative Learning with Live, Virtual and Face-to-Face Sessions
  • Asynchronous Self-Paced Learning with Online Modules through the Flamingo App
  • Up to 20 Hours of Paid Professional Development ($15/hr stipend) for Live Sessions and Completion of Asynchronous Modules
  • 40 Reading Inservice Points towards Recertification
  • Free Materials to Support Implementation
  • Ongoing Support through Coaching and Virtual Office Hours with the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning

Requirements:

  • Be a VPK through 3rd grade literacy teacher (VE or ELL teacher, coach, or other resource teacher). ***Headstart, PEEPS, and math/science teachers are not elligible.
  • Complete 3 modules of self-paced asynchronous learning through the Lastinger Center Flamingo Learning Platform prior to the institute kickoff.
  • Complete all 6 modules of self-paced asynchronous learning through the Lastinger Center Flamingo Learning Platform by July 31, 2023.
  • Commit to attending all virtual and face-to-face sessions of the institute with your cohort.
  • Apply strategies and skills within the classroom throughout Summer 2023.
  • Take advantage of coaching, virtual support sessions, and online office hours offered through the Lastinger Center for Learning. 

Hybrid Institute for Summer 2023 Cohort 2:

This course consists of a combination of virtual sessions, a face-to-face session, asynchronous self-paced work through modules in Flamingo Learning, and application at your school site. Participants must attend ALL of the following sessions if enrolled:

  • May 16th: 4:00-7:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom 
  • May 17th: 4:00-7:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom
  • May 18th: 4:00-7:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom
  • May 20th: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Face-to-Face Session @Seminole Elementary Multi-Purpose Room

Upon registering for this course, you will:

  • Immediately receive a registration confirmation email that includes directions for joining the virtual sessions through Zoom. 
  • Be added to a Canvas course to coordinate your learning experience.
  • Receive an email within a few days from the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning with directions for accessing the Flamingo Literacy Platform. Follow the directions to complete Modules 1-3 prior to the first virtual session. Be sure to check your "Other" inbox in Outlook for the emails if you do not see them.
