Course Description More Details
USF will host a Professional Development Institute on how to complete the ABE labs. Once you have completed the training: with your students and the dates you intend to complete the labs, we will deliver the kits and provide assistance in setting up and executing the labs in your classroom. You will then select the ABE labs you want to complete We will pick up the kits after the students have completedthe labs. You will be provided access to Canvas resources, answer keys, and a set of on-line resources through LabExchange. YRemember: the training, kits, and reagents are completely free of charge If your school has micropipettes, microcentrifuge, a vortex mixer, hot water bath, and the gel electrophoresis equipment, we can provide the reagents on a more expedited schedule.
The labs that can be used in your classes are: The remaining labs focus on using bacterial transformation to produce a target protein. Lab 1: Students practice using micropipettes, loading and running gel electrophoresis. Lab 2a: Using restriction enzymes to digest DNA so a plasmid containing the selected DNA can be inserted. Lab 4a: Using gel electrophoresis to conrm that the DNA has been successfully digested. Lab 5a: Transforming bacteria and growing them on selective plates to observe that they are producing the desired protein. Lab 6: Isolating the target protein using column chromatography.
