Course Description More Details
This course is for FOR SLPs and SLPAs.
"The neurodiversity movement has elevated the narrative of reflecting on our practices in many areas of communication differences. What does it mean for SLPs who work with those who stutter? How do we include culturally responsive practices in the stuttering therapy environment? This presentation outlines the paradigm shifts as well as provides practical applications of what we keep- and what we don't - from our past practices, and how this all shapes our assessment and intervention procedures." -Nina Reeves, MS, CCC-SLP BCS-FD, F-ASHA
Participants in this workshop will be able to define ableism and neurodiversity as they relate to stuttering and stuttering therapy, identify at least 2 pivotal shifts for speech-language pathologists who wish to provide disability-affirming stuttering therapy, and analyze a case student to highlight necessary changes in navigating eligibility, goal-choice, and accommodations for students who stutter.
