Mentoring, when done effectively, creates a partnership between two individuals—the mentor and the mentee. The goal of the mentoring program is to provide support for the mentee and allow them to have an opportunity to meet with their mentor to discuss/share successes and concerns, and pinpoint areas for improvement. As a mentor, we hope that you will experience enhanced leadership skills, renewed growth, and the satisfaction that you made a difference for a beginning teacher in your advice and support.

Responsibilities for Mentor:

  • Develop a trusting relationship with your mentee, which means being open and vulnerable.
  • Be an active listener and be willing to go beyond the surface level to provide the feedback and support your mentee needs.
  • Value the mentoring partner as a whole person.
  • Support your mentee in enhancing strengths and strengthening areas for improvement.
  • Commit to the meeting and observation schedule as outlined.

Responsbilities of Mentee:

  • Ask for HELP when you need it.
  • Develop a trusting relationship with your mentor, realizing that the mentor/mentee relationship goes both ways.
  • Answer questions thoughtfully and honestly, even when it hurts a bit to disclose the truth.
  • Know that every teacher has areas of strength and areas for growth.
  • Commit to the meeting and observation schedule once created.
  • Reflect on your progress from beginning of program to end of semster 1 with your mentor by submitting assignment to TLC leader.
