***K-5 Reading Teachers and Literacy Leaders ONLY***

In this HYBRID professional development experience, participants will take their reading practice to the next level by joining other likeminded K-5th educators in an in-depth literacy institute focused on aligning small group instruction to the science of reading. HCPS educators in this institute will benefit from training through the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning, earning 30 hours of inservice points towards the Florida reading requirement for recertification. Participants must attend and apply all sessions of the institute for course completion.

Program Highlights:

  • Collaborative Learning with Live, Virtual, and Face-to-Face Sessions
  • Asynchronous Self-Paced Learning with Online Modules through the Flamingo Learning Platform
  • Additional Opportunities to Co-plan and Observe Model Lessons through Fishbowl Experiences
  • 16 Hours of Paid Professional Development ($15/hr stipend) for Live Sessions
    • Stipends will be paid only to those meeting ALL of the following criteria: HCPS employees (instructional and less than 12-month administrative) who are marked Complete in PDS for finishing the full course (live sessions and self-paced coursework)
  • 30 Reading Inservice Points towards Recertification

Requirements:

  • Be a kindergarten through 5th grade literacy teacher (literacy leader, coach, or other resource teacher). 
  • Complete all 6 modules of self-paced asynchronous learning through the Lastinger Center Flamingo Learning Platform by July 26, 2024.
  • Attend all virtual and face-to-face sessions of the institute with your cohort.
  • Apply strategies and skills within the classroom throughout the 2024-2025 school year.

Hybrid Institute for Summer 2024 Cohort 5A:

This course consists of a combination of virtual sessions, a face-to-face session, asynchronous self-paced work through modules in Flamingo Learning, and application at your school site. Participants must attend ALL of the following sessions if enrolled:

  • Session 1 - Monday, June 24th: 2:00-5:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom 
  • Session 2 - Tuesday, June 25th: 2:00-5:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom 
  • Session 3 - Thursday, June 27th: 2:00-5:00 pm Virtual Session over Zoom 
  • Session 4 - Friday, June 28th: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Face-to-Face Session @Instructional Services Center (ISC) Rm 102

Upon registering for this course, you will:

  • Immediately receive a registration confirmation email that includes directions for joining the virtual sessions through Zoom. 
  • Be added to a Canvas course to coordinate your learning experience.
  • Receive an email from the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning with directions for accessing the Flamingo Learning Platform. Follow the directions in Canvas and Flamingo Learning to begin completing your self-paced modules in order to build background knowledge. Be sure to check your "Other" inbox in Outlook for the emails if you do not see them.
