DBT STEPS-A: The Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Schools: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents is an evidence-based counseling/coaching curriculum that teaches emotion regulation skills and coping strategies to middle and high school adolescents with an emphasis on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. This 2-day DBT training equips school counselors with advanced techniques to address students' emotional and behavioral challenges, directly supporting their mental wellness. School counselors will learn “Coaching and Counseling on the Fly” strategies, allowing them to provide timely, effective support during the school day, thereby increasing students' in class time, while still addressing their needs.

In addition, this 2-day training responds to the elevated anxiety levels and emotional needs of students, ensuring schools provide the necessary mental health-related support after experiencing trauma. Implementing DBT strategies helps in early identification and intervention of mental health issues, preventing escalation and promoting long-term resilience. Finally, training in the use of DBT’s validation skills will foster a more supportive and understanding school environment, positively impacting overall school culture.
